“The Elorn I”, named after a stream that rises right next door from my home and playground for many a guiding day after wild brown trout, is an all–around trout fishing tool for small to medium-sized waters, 20 to 40 feet wide, which is the case for many trout rivers, not only here in Brittany but also in parts of France and Belgium. Short and accurate, its 8 foot length is ideal in most situations found along wooded streams. With few false casts line can be brought out to reach large, finicky fish that, once hooked, will display a multitude of tricks to throw the hook. The blank has enough leverage and reserve power to keep control while protecting fine tippets down to 7X. Comes with an identical spare tip and sports great artisanship to please every angler with an eye for detail and efficiency.
This allround short trout rod is best paired with weight-forward lines (WF or TT), it loads quickly and can shoot line in a matter of few false casts, great feature in wild-brown trout country where any excess motion can send fish running. Very lightweight, it accommodates a lightweight large arbor reel with a good drag. The blank has the backbone to fish most local salmonid up to 10 lbs (rainbow trout, sea trout, grilse) but also specimen cyprinid species like chub and barbel.
The rod builder’s note
“Nice small-water do-it-all stick with plenty of power in the spine yet comes with a nervous and accurate tip. It says 3- to 4-weight lines, but will work great up close with a moderate WF-5 especially for all sorts of roll casts. Needless to say, the “little” Thistledown line by Snowbee is a perfect match for this fine beauty that can cast line a long way if so needed.”
